Picnic Time

Hello again and welcome to my latest blog.

Picnic Time  is time to take advantage of the fine weather when you have it .
Picnics are great ways to enjoy summer and the big outdoors, keep the family healthy active and interested in that world outside (and away from TV and Xbox).

Firstly dig up the wicker picnic basket, I have no doubt that it needs to be cleaned! Remove all cutlery, glasses, plates and napkins and wash thoroughly and that includes the car rug. Now vacuum your basket and then wash with mild soapy water. Rub a little linseed oil into the basket work and hang out to dry. If necessary sprinkle a little baking soda to get rid of bad odours.

Before you go to the food list just remember a few safety tips

  • Clean hands as well as clean utensils will help stop spread of any germs
  •  Those germs also spread if food temperature gets out of hand,  cold food needs to be kept chilled so wrap it in newspaper or keep it in a cool box
  • Prepare the food the day you are going for the picnic, not days before
  • Obviously do not bring the utensils that have prepared the food unless you have rewashed them
  • Take care with sharp knives and cork screws  A cork for sharp tips or proper sheaths for sharp knives leaves fingers intact
  • Keep the Green Code - Bring all your rubbish home,  after all we need to keep the countryside safe and clean

Now plan your Picnic but remember,

“If ants are such busy workers, how come they find time
to go to all the picnics?”
- Marie Dressler

The food suggestions I leave up to you but just in case here are a couple of links

Summer time and the living is easy!

Summer Cleaning

Hi again
It looks like summer has finally arrived.  Perhaps you may feel sorry for any students with study and exams but for the rest of us it’s time to enjoy the outdoors. So forget about all those house cleaning chores and allow us to do the jobs for you.

There are a few typical jobs that can be done to make life easier.

That mat inside front and back doors, make sure it is clean. If you don’t have one then it’s time to put a rubber backed mat in place. Did you know that over 80% of the grime brought in your home comes in on your shoes? Why do the Scandinavians take off their shoes at the door and go around in socks. It is easier and quicker to clean a mat rather than the whole house.

Next the kitchen and what is inside your presses?  This is the right time to clean out those cupboards and sanitise for the warmer summer months. It ensures those flying insects have no reason to be in there. This also means dumping any out of date or damaged food stuffs and helps ensure your families health and safety. After all, those hungry children home from school will not read the labels before eating their favourite nibble.

The bin.  It is essential to keep all rubbish bins clean and grime free in the warmer summer months.  Not just the inside bin but also the large outdoor bin can be a mecca for flies and other creatures. They need a thorough clean each time they are emptied or collected and before they are used again.
Let us not forget the Garage or Garden Shed.  Cobwebs dust and generally discarded wrappings have gathered over the winter and it needs a good tidy anyway. It will help you find all those wet suits, footballs, bikes or even garden tools that have not been seen since last autumn. You may even need to rethink and plan your storage.

If we are to get the best from warm summer days then it is well to remember
“A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing, and the lawn mower is broken.”  ~James Dent

May I suggest that you talk to our nearest office and ask Pristine.ie to take care of all those cleaning needs. Using the experts will ensure that your home is filled with fresh garden smells to help you enjoy the longer days of summer.
