Cleaning Tips for Arthritis Sufferers
Hello
again,
What
wonderful summer weather we have been experiencing. A little bird tells me it is to improve again
by the end of the month.
My
thoughts this month are for those who have the misfortune to suffer from
arthritis. Home cleaning is not just difficult and probably painful but even the
thought of having to do this chore can be daunting. So here are a few tips that
might just ease the pain. Firstly it is very important to plan all cleaning
tasks to maximize sparkle and minimize joint pain and strain.
- Instead of a dedicated cleaning day, clean just a room or at most two per day.
- You may need to hoover or vacuum only the walkway from the kitchen to the doorway to make an impact.
- Choose a suitable place to store your cleaning equipment and spray bottles, Store at hand height so there is no need to bend or stretch
- Procure the right equipment, such as long handled brushes, dusters and mops. Consider a self-propelled vacuum cleaner. Use small bottles or concentrates as they are easier to carry.
- You might even put all the cleaning equipment in a suitable trolley to ease moving.
- Perhaps it may be possible to clean sitting on a stool or chair.
- Micro-fibre cloths are very good at cleaning ad removing the dust, better than any other cloth.
- Put on an old sock like a glove to do the dusting if your fingers are too painful to grip a cloth
- Don’t forget it is easier to clean a mess when it is fresh rather than wait for it to dry and then you have to scrub – ouch!
- Let the cleaning solution do the work by soaking any heavy duty grime before wiping
- Reduce laundry loads as they are easier to manage.
Remember: “You have to accept whatever comes and the
only important thing is that you meet it with courage and with the best that
you have to give.”
